#60 – The DP World Tours in town….

…ready to watch some great golf?!


Exciting event scheduled for the huddersfaxgolf area the first week of September! No stranger to hosting big events, Huddersfield GC is scheduled to be one of several locations for the first stage of the DP World Tour’s Qualifying School.  Known familiarly as ‘Q School’, it has “since its inception in 1976 . . . been providing players from all over the world with a platform to earn their place on Europe’s top tour”. 

Why not pop over to HGC and enjoy some time watching aspiring players, many local/northerners among them, seeking to progress to the next stage. Spectators are welcome. 


The Alliance updatesMeltham GC

Tuesday 12 March saw 46 pairs tee off at Meltham GC for the Alliance meeting. A magnificent win was recorded by Hanging Heaton players Tony Skitt and Nigel Clough with a stunning 51 points – well played, indeed!

Meltham members Chris Hutchings and Simon Mourne came a fine second on 47 points, with pairings from Crow Nest/Crosland Heath, Dewsbury District, and Bradley
Park tied third on 45 – well played Michael Greenan, Allan Scholefield, James Ward (P), Jonathan Binns, Amsal Mansaf and Chris Forbes respectively.

The next outing will take place at Willow Valley GC on Tuesday 26 March 2024.

Events are open to Professionals, Assistant Professionals and amateurs with an active handicap at a member club or by individual membership.

2020protour v Yorkshire Men’s Team

A tantalising prospect beckons!

Come along and join the spectators when a strong 12-man 2020protour team face off with the highly successful

Yorkshire Men’s team in a challenge match to be played at Rotherham GC. Prior to the season getting underway,

Monday 9 April will see two talent-packed teams go head to head in a potentially thrilling day of matches.

Chris Hanson and Adam Walker, co-founders of the 2020protour (and both former Yorkshire players) have put together an impressive line up of 2020protour professionals, all of whom have seen various levels of success on tour, Challenge Tour and DP World Tour included, their names being familiar to most golf watchers.

The format for the day is six fourball betterball matches, all playing out for the full 18 holes to achieve an aggregate result.

The line-up is:

Match 1: Adam Walker/George Mason v. Tom Osborne/Charlie Daughtrey

Match 2: George Ash/Josh Berry v. Jake Sowden/Aaron Brettell

Match 3: Dan Brown/John Parry v. Ben Brown/Lucas Martin

Match 4: Simon Dyson/Chris Hanson v. George Hanson/Jack Northgraves

Match 5: Jigger Thomson/Joe Dean v. George Heath/Jake Wallis

Match 6: Nick Marsh/Marco Penge v. Dan Thomas/Ollie Smith

It won’t go unnoticed that a couple of the matches may have some family rivalries at play, where pro Dan Brown will face his younger brother Ben, and pro Chris Hanson
similarly plays his nephew, George!

The first match tees off at 11am and spectators are very much welcomed to come along and watch some of the finest golfing talent around.
